Many people have chosen a word for the year, a focus word. The chosen word is to direct the person’s thoughts throughout 2014. Have you claimed a word of your own for this year?
For 2013, I chose a phrase rather than a word.
Embrace This Season
This reminder gave me the focus to appreciate the season I’m in, to thoroughly enjoy it, and not to dread the next season – approaching quickly.
I was having trouble deciding on my 2014 focus word or phrase. God is always my main focus, and He drew me to this word one day last week.
It speaks of anticipation. Looking forward with hope, no matter what’s going on with us. My current circumstances – good, bad, or ugly – have a yet following.
Then Gideon and the 300 men who were with him came to the Jordan and crossed over, weary yet pursuing. (Judges 8:4)
The men were weary, yet they forged ahead toward their goal.
I’m going through Priscilla Shirer’s study of Gideon at my own pace, which is nice and slow. I like to ponder. Are you a ponderer, too? Sometimes, it takes more than a day to completely ponder and absorb a concept Priscilla discusses. Therefore, sometimes it takes me two or three weeks to cover one week of study.
Priscilla brought this yet word to my attention, and as I pondered on it, I realized that should be my word for the year. It’s such a tiny word, yet 😉 it holds such promise.
I’m not weary from battle, like Gideon and his men. But, sometimes we can get a little weary of life in general. I’ll share the word with you, if it suits you, too.
Personally, I truly have nothing to complain about. I am blessed beyond what I deserve! My focus word will keep me from dwelling on negative things of yesterday, or even a few moments prior.
I picture myself standing at the yet, choosing to look forward with hopeful anticipation.
Will you join me?
Yet we have a spectacular day ahead – another Spectacular Sunday.
