I wish I could share our glorious weather with you. Our cool temps are unusual for August – highs in the mid 80’s this week. It is 55 degrees this morning! I hope you’re experiencing this crispness, too.
I’ve been a heat and humidity snob this summer. Many of my plantings were severely neglected and didn’t last long. Do you sometimes give yourself a rest from all the watering and needed care of things outside?
Probably due to our early season travels, I didn’t give things their usual attention. Know what I discovered? It’ll be OK. Life goes on for the strong, the resilient.
I happened to step up to our window over the master tub the other day. I glanced downward at the knock-out roses, and shocker…the cockscomb had shot right up to about four feet tall!
When I went outside for a closer look, this huge yellow bloom begged for attention.
Remember how these looked in my last What’s Blooming Wednesday post?
Well, that was over a month ago. I’ve been so preoccupied…of course they’ve been growing and growing.
Fairly late into spring (early June), I randomly sprinkled seeds I dried last year.
I wasn’t sure they would do very well that late. Surprise!
Behind the garage, these cockscomb are shorter but blooming profusely.
Bachelor buttons beside the cockscomb are fun, too.
Even during their summer of neglect, these survivors are boasting their strength.
What blooms are boasting at your house? Anything noteworthy or surprising?
Today’s the last day to enter the Birthday Fun Give-Away, so now’s the time. 🙂
