Watermelon Lemonade with Apple Mint Sugar

Ahhhh!  Doesn’t that look refreshing?

Watermelon Lemonade

You might remember seeing this glass on the tablescape I posted yesterday, Firecracker, Firecracker, Boom-Boom-Boom!!

Fourth of July Tablescape

PAM (Painter Artist Mom) passed along a recipe for Watermelon Lemonade she found on Pinterest.  I would love to tell you the source, but PAM didn’t PIN the recipe.  She didn’t have any information about it except the ingredients she’d written down.  I searched for it but never found this particular recipe.  If you look for Watermelon Lemonade on Pinterest, you will get a thousand different recipes.  After an hour of searching, I gave up.

With all the recipes for Watermelon Lemonade on Pinterest, you have many to try.  This one tastes very good, so I’ll stick with it.

Ingredients:

1 3/4 cup sugar

9 cups water

2 cups fresh lemon juice

1 cup watermelon juice

Mix all ingredients together in a pitcher, stirring until sugar is dissolved.  It’s that simple.  Some recipes have you boil the sugar and water to make a simple syrup.  That’s how I make sweet tea, but I’ve never made lemonade by that method.  PAM says she made it that way when I was little, but I don’t remember it.

I remembered seeing a Mint Sugar recipe at Love Grows Wild, so I made some of that out of my Apple Mint I have growing in a pot on the porch.

Fresh Apple Mint

The original Mint Sugar recipe is made with regular mint, and that works well, also.

Processing Mint Sugar

In a food processor, chop 1/4 cup of whole fresh mint leaves and 1 cup of sugar.

Processed Mint Sugar

I think the sugar helps chop up the leaves really fine.  After pouring some out onto a plate, I ran some lemon around the rim of the glass.  You could wet the rim with watermelon or just plain water, if you prefer.

Rimming with Lemon

Dip the glass into the Mint Sugar.  Yum!

Apple Mint Sugar

It’s just the extra little hint of mint that is perfect with this Watermelon Lemonade!

Spunky Daughter said it’s the best thing she has ever tasted.  EVER.  That’s huge, coming from a teenager, y’all.  (It doesn’t hurt that her favorite fruit is watermelon.)

Next time I cut a watermelon, I’ll puree some to freeze in ice-cube trays.  Watermelon ice cubes would be delicious in this lemonade, although, it disappeared too quickly to need it today.

Happy Friday, y’all.  I hope you have a blessed weekend.

Thank you for visiting! ~ Just a note to remind you to follow me through email, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Google+ or Hometalk.  Also, I’d love it if you shared Curtain Queen with all your sweet friends.  Thanks, y’all.
