Have you ever considered turning your dining room into a library or music room – or a combination of both?
Plans and ideas have bumped around in my mind for a couple of months. I thought I’d share some inspiration with you today – pictures of spaces that have inspired me as I transform our dining room – something I never thought I’d do.
First, let’s look at the dining space as a beginning point. This picture from my Independence Celebration Table in Vintage Style post shows the view from the china cabinet wall to the foyer. Notice the piano to the right. It will stay on that wall. Pianos are too heavy to move!
Here’s the view of the china cabinet wall. This picture was unused from How Her Garden Grows tablescape. Ha! I didn’t use it because my laptop was in view.
To the right of the table is a wall with a double window.
Birds of a Feather Eat Together tablescape post picture shows the front window wall.
You can see from the pictures that our dining room is fairly average.
For ideas, I gathered some Houzz examples. Some are grand! (Click the picture of any you wish to investigate further.)
You could easily add the music aspect to this room, but better lighting is needed for reading (in my opinion).
Better light in this one…much better.
Nice! No music, though.
This example looks like it’s doable. Our new arrangement will be a simple one, too. No TV in this room for us. Maybe for you, though!
This example looks to be an easy transformation. Just add books to the shelves. 🙂
If you don’t want to use a dining room for a library/music room, an extra bedroom would work.
How about a library/game room?
We plan to use our space for playing games and cards – and we’ll keep the music aspect.
If you plan to build bookshelves, this room shows us a fine example. I love the skinny sconces!
This one looks very masculine and rich, especially with the added fireplace.
Although I’m not a fan of black painted trim for my house, I enjoy seeing it in an appropriate setting like this one. Period wallpaper detailing with rich colors and textures would put you in the mood to snuggle up and read – or play the guitar. I love the look of this!
This fireplace is to the right of the bookcase above. The floor pillow is a wonderful idea.
I’m moving furniture and re-arranging and hope to show the results soon.
Does your family enjoy floor seating? What other details in these examples inspire you?
I’m sharing this post at Tablescape Thursday.
