Last week, in Tools for a Superb Marriage – Week 2, we talked about The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian (an awesome book!). Stormie has published prayer books for every area of our lives, from womanhood to parenthood, from wife role to prayer life as a Christian.
We are women first before we become wives, and The Power of a Praying Woman is essential to our prayer life as a woman of God. Thirty chapters fill us with reminders of how to be a better woman, Christian, friend, wife, mother, sister, daughter…you name it, it’s covered.
Stormie encourages us to pray for our cleansing, our stand against the enemy, our kind words, our fruit, our purity and holiness…the list goes on.
The most meaningful portion of this book for me in marriage is the opening chapter about The Power. No matter our age, marital status, health, years as a believer, Stormie encourages us in our devotion to the Lord and seeking His aid each day.
When our lives are covered in prayer, He keeps our paths straight, calms our storms, and organizes the complexities of life. I have never understood how people make it without our Lord, Jesus Christ! How we need Him to confide in! He knows our deepest longings, but to discuss them with Him gives us His peace beyond all understanding.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7 ESV)
Why do we look to others to meet our needs, when the Lord is the One? Our husbands can’t meet all our needs, nor was he created and designed for it. Jesus Christ is the being that fills our soul completely.
If you desire to know Him in a deeper way, tell Him. He’ll take you there. If you feel your life is going astray from your vision, seek Him for the direction you need. His way is supreme to all our plans.
If you have a longing for Jesus, praise Him for it! He designed us with that longing inside us, the hunger that can only be satisfied through our relationship with Jesus. I make this promise to you: if you spend time with Him each day for 17 days, you’ll be hooked.
Addicted. Sold out. Dependent upon Him alone.
Your marriage will be stronger, your parenting will be better, each part of your life will be blessed more fully.
He will fill your soul. But, it requires time alone with Him – relationship through conversation – prayer.
It’s a spectacular day for worship. Let’s praise our Lord today!
