Thrifty Lamp Duo

Lamps Complete

You may have noticed these lamps in my post about Spunky Daughter’s room called Extending the Life of a Tween Room.

They were a fabulous thrift store find at $5 each.  Can you believe it?  Matching lamps – and they actually work.  I’d like to encourage you to shop at thrift stores for furniture and accessories.  Sometimes they have a gem or two that need a new home – yours!

I completely forgot…again…to get a before shot.  You get the privilege of seeing them taped and ready for paint in the loveliness of our garage.  Brace yourself.

Lamps Taped for Painting

One lamp had been painted black, but the color beneath was aqua – the color of the other lamp.  Aqua, which is the perfect color for SD’s room, is one of her funky fresh colors.  See the can?  It’s a multi-surface spray paint from Wal-Mart.  Nothing fancy.

Spray Painting Lamps

Once I had the painting complete, the hunt was on for matching shades.  I won’t go into a lot of detail here, but let’s just say the lamps have been hanging around upstairs waiting for the shades.  For a while.

I purchased these lamps at the same time as the vanity stool, which was around the first of May.  You saw the stool in Vanity Stool Update – Tutorial.

SD regularly reminded me that she was ready for the new lamps.  She’s such a patient daughter – it’s been almost three months.  I don’t blame her for wanting these lamps.  Don’t you love those curly ques all over them?

Lamp Close-Up

I love the texture!  I found these plain and simple shades at Lowe’s – perfect to let the lamp base get all the attention.

Funky Fresh Bedroom

By the way, Lowe’s has awesome lamp shades!  If you ever need shades, check them out.  Most are not even plain Jane, like these are.  (No, Lowe’s didn’t pay me to say that.  It’s just my opinion, for whatever that’s worth.)

Did you notice the “C” finial?

C Finial

SD used this letter as her defense that she needed these lamps, because they have her initial on them.  I couldn’t argue with that.

My name, as you know, starts with a K, so they couldn’t go in my bedroom (much too frilly for HH, anyway).

Spunky Daughter rests her case.

Thank you for visiting! ~ Just a note to remind you to follow me through email, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Google+ or Hometalk.  Also, I’d love it if you shared Curtain Queen with all your sweet friends.  Thanks, y’all.

They look lovely! I really adore the aqua color that both you and your daughter chose. (How did I miss a room reveal? Heading to that post now….)

Thank you. Yes, aqua is very popular right now. Since I can’t use it presently in the decor of the common areas of our home (doesn’t match), I love using it in SD’s room! It is a fun and pretty color. 🙂

Great job, Kim! You can really get down with a can of paint!!! Those are perfect for her room, and I like it that you went with the less ornate shade to let the color and design of the base to have its moment in the spotlight!
