Do you have trouble talking about your faith?
Do you get shy and tongue-tied when speaking in front of a group – or even with one person?
Our final directive from Jesus before His ascension was for us to spread the word about Him – The Great Commission.
And then he told them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone’. (Mark 16:15 NLT)
Does that word preach scare you? It does me!
We’re not all equipped to preach. Do words come out wrong when you speak? Mine do. My brain gets all jumbled up when trying to explain something with my mouth. But, with my hands, that’s something altogether different. When writing, what I want to say flows.
It has nothing to do with the gift of gab. I can chat about lots of things of unimportance – for hours on end – and laugh and cut-up, too. But, when it comes to serious stuff, that’s different. I guess the weight of speaking clearly, concisely, and eloquently is too much for my brain, and it shuts down.
I hope you’re not like me. I hope you don’t struggle with speech. If you do, then you understand what I’m talking about.
Does this give us an out for sharing our faith? Is that a good excuse to bow out of the great commission?
We are each equipped with different gifts. ‘Speaking’ to others about Jesus can involve many different forms.
The love of Christ, when He is in us, will overflow into serving others. In what ways do you serve others?
We share our faith with others through serving them, and we need to follow that with sharing Christ verbally. (I’m preaching now, through my fingers, and to myself as well as to you.)
Do we have to be a Bible scholar to share our faith? No. I’m certainly NOT. But, we can share how He has impacted our life…changed us…blessed us…helped us…rescued us…healed us. There’s no preaching in that. That’s telling a story.
Tell your story.
Each of our lives is a story. Did you realize you’ve been writing your story all your life? We write our story by the choices we make and living our life.
The testimony of how Christ took you from the before to how you are now – tell that. Others are to that. (I’m still preaching to myself here.)
God has blessed the Robertson family with an audience through their TV show Duck Dynasty, and they have remained faithful to Him. They share their faith openly and willingly.
Our audience may be one person at a time, and that’s all we need. Sharing our story doesn’t require a microphone in our face. (I shutter at the thought of that!)
Many of you know about my faith because I share it here with you. This is easy for me. I also need to be obedient to share one-on-one when the opportunity comes.
Share who you are – who God has molded you to be.
Share your story.
I hope you’ll pray about ways to share your faith with others…God will bring it on. Our world so desperately needs to hear!
Have a spectacular Sunday, y’all!
