Chirping Into Spring – A Tablescape

Are you noticing birdsong outside your windows these days?  Do you hear chirping?

Plate Stack

I don’t know how things are at your house, but this week in North Mississippi, it’s  w a y  warmer.

Remember last week while Finding the Gold, we had ice?  And the week before, remember singing Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let Us Sew  during the snowfall?  Isn’t it unbelievable, the difference only a few days can make?

Chirping Into Spring Tablescape

Do you ever wish I’d stop asking so many questions?  (Oopsy daisy, that was another one.)

The birds are ecstatic  over our 70-degree afternoons.

Brown Iron Birds

It’s so loud on the porches…must be some nest-building going on!   Egg-laying, too.

White Iron Birds and Nest

Mama bird above is tending to her nest while Papa bird stands watch for predators.  I found the nest a couple of years ago in a Magnolia tree.  It was abandoned – eggs, too.

I purchased these fake Robin eggs years ago, before our move from suburban life to country life.

Fake Robin Eggs

They’re farther beyond the scale of real  than I realized at the time.

To completely change the subject, it’s almost impossible to find table rounds large enough for our over-sized table.  I attached a burlap extension to this 60″ round from T. J. Maxx.

Burlap Tablecloth Skirt

I wanted to gather it but thought the stiff, scratchy burlap ruffle would bunch up in our laps while eating.  What a pain, huh?

I’m considering adding a shorter ruffle around the upper rim since this isn’t quite the look I was going for.

I cut and raveled burlap squares for napkin layering, but their bulk wouldn’t fit through the napkin rings.  This alternative plan works fine – a simple pocket fold for napkin and flat-ware.

Napkin and Flatware Pocket

I had Easter in mind for the table-cloth, but it’s useful for many tables from Spring through Summer, inside or out, even for birthday celebrations.

Our indoor plants seem to yearn  for a little fresh air…looking a little needy.

Center Bird Collection

Since it’s too early for flies, why not open the door wide and let some fresh air inside?

My cheap collections: Dollar Tree stemware and “chargers”, T. J. Maxx salad plates, Tuesday Morning clearance outdoor dinner plates. Wal-Mart place mats.

Skipidee-do-dah, skipidee-ay  keeps playing in my head.  Chirps and birdsong have really gotten me ready for Spring!

Are your birds giving you lots of background music?  Are you ready for Spring?

So cute! Love the little birds and eggs! That must be a big table if the 60″ top is too small! I have a 42″ round and it’s too small. I shoul’ve got the 48″ one. My space is limited. I just found some plates as TJMaxx callled “chirp”. I like the colorful pattern of the tablecloth- perfect for spring and Easter. The burlap napkin folds are great- never thought of that one! We are thrilled to be at 50 degrees for a few days and expect more warm temps even next week. I think we may be on our way to spring (fingers crossed)!
