Recognizing the Voice

Do you have negative thoughts about yourself?  Is your first reaction to a compliment one that dispels or minimizes it?  There’s a reason.

The reason is not what you think.  The reason is NOT that those whispering thoughts are the truth.  And, the reason is discussed in scripture.

John 10:10

Not everyone struggles with this.  HH says he never has thoughts like these.  All along, I thought it was normal  and that everyone has those negative tapes running through their mind.

The voice isn’t creepy whispers.  It’s not another personality pushing its way in.

The voice is Satan…trying to get into your head, your thought life.  It may seem spooky and eerie to you.  It may sound crazy, but we do have a spiritual realm operating around us.  We can’t see it.  It’s unrecognizable…unless we’re aware of it.

For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies,
but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world,
against mighty powers in this dark world,
and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. {Ephesians 6:12 NLT}

The devil is real.  He is at work always, picking at us, jabbing us, and throwing fiery darts.  Sometimes his darts are more than simple annoyances.  They can be devastating!

If your eyes are open to the spiritual truths in the Bible about what’s going on in “the heavenly places”, the spiritual realm, then you’ve seen it with your spiritual eyes.  And, you are aware and watching.  I thought I was watching, but that sneaky Devil wormed his way in!

To begin our new year in 2017, our Sunday School class studied Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God.  I was filled with fiery darts sticking out all over the place, and I was eaten up with thoughts of self-consciousness, inadequacy, and doubt.  Satan had been chipping away at my confidence, and I was helping him!

If you replay those tapes of negativity in your head,
you are in effect agreeing with Satan.
You are helping Satan accomplish his destruction.
So stop doing that!

I don’t hate any person, but I do hate Satan!  Why would I want to help him?  I don’t.  When I realized what was happening and that I was helping him in his scheme, it was time for war.  If you struggle with this same thing, I want to help you break the pattern.

We can’t have the rich and satisfying life that God wants us to have if we allow Satan to have his way.

Let’s overcome this pattern of destruction, shall we?  Next week, we’ll start looking at things in a new way – chipping away this tendency.

Are you with me?

Kim, Satan is the chief of liars and if we listen to his lies, eventually we will believe them. It is a constant struggle for many women to listen to the voice of truth from our good, good Father. Thanks for sharing your wonderful inspiration from God’s word. Happy Sunday, my dear friend’

Yes, we do believe them when repeated inside our head. Thanks for visiting and for your encouragement. Happy day to you, too. 🙂

Hi Kim, I truly believe Satan is hard at work all around us all the time. Just in the last month at my church something really miraculous was happening to a member and one person was trying to destroy the ensuing happiness. It upset me to the point I thought I might need to quit that church. Then a dear friend pointed out that was really Satan working on me. As soon as I heard that, I felt a sense of peace come over me because I knew with God’s help I could fight Satan. Blessings, Roxanne

I’m sorry you were upset. (That’s what Satan wanted!) Thank the Lord for your friend to give you such good advice. I’m glad you’re now at peace with the situation. We do have authority over Satan through Jesus. Praise the Lord for that! Thanks for sharing your story. It’s a neat one. 🙂

Great topic. When younger I thought these thoughts were a part of staying humble. They aren’t. They are roadblocks that keep us from doing our best for others and ourselves. They can poison our environment. I am glad for these reminder lessons. One lesson I learned several years ago was when I receive a complement is to say, “My pleasure.” It reminds me that I get pleasure from doing good for others and the thankful person realizes they had a role in our receiving this pleasure. It encourages us both.

It happens to more people than you think. They just don’t talk about it. Make a plan of action and after a while you just roll with it.

It happens to me a LOT. Sometimes ALL STINKING DAY!!! He will try to put me in the dumps after some small thing happens….putting negative thoughts about myself in my head.

Then there are the times Satan brings up the past…when the bad kids in the neighborhood did mean things to me, things that happened as a teenager, and bad decisions I made as an adult. His goal is to destroy. And however he THINKS he can do that…he does. Nothing is off limits. But every time he does I remind myself he is a liar and that stuff is his past failed attempts to derail my future…what GOD has for me. I rebuke him OUT LOUD, in the name of Jesus, tell him to go back to where he came from, and I quote scripture…usually “Greater is He that is me than he that is in the world.” I may have to KEEP saying it over and over. Sometimes he does not let up. It could be all day sometimes.

He will also throw dirty thoughts in your mind…even in CHURCH or when you are reading your bible! He will throw pictures of my kids and dog being harmed or killed in my mind as well. He has even told me to turn my wheel into oncoming traffic. I laugh at that one. LOL It usually happens on one certain spot on the road that curves. It is a royal pain, but I know that he does this MORE the closer I am to a victory. He might even tell you to harm someone or worse. He is DESPERATE!!!

I get attacked in dreams because I get revelation is dreams . It was prophesied to me that he wakes me up in the middle of the night to frustrate me. I was told to read scripture. I grab my iphone and go to my bible app and read a few verses, then go back to sleep.

So I praise God, thank Jesus…and ask the Holy Spirit to help me. That is what He is here for!!! We are not called to go it alone!!!

My pastor says that it is our nature to rebel, so why not rebel against the devil?! Tell him you are God’s and he can’t have you…and quote him some scripture.

Thanks, Robin. That’s a great lead-in for this coming Sunday’s post. We’ll review how to refresh the tape to what God has to say about it. We’ll now listen to Him! 🙂
