While visiting Dollar Tree recently, I noticed these cute paper clips.
They also have stars, which I wound up getting, too.
My wheels started turning as I thought of the empire balloon valances I was making for my friend.
Remember the treatments with Butterfly Pleats? Here’s the treatment before collecting the ring “columns” together on the back side.
You might remember the end result.
This is a non-working shade. Or, since it’s non-functioning, you could call it a valance.
Each scoop is pulled up by two rows of rings.
Here’s what the back side looks like as I began looping the rings into the paper clips.
Pretty neat, huh? The usual way is to thread a shade cord through all the loops and then tie the cord in a knot. You have to triple-knot the thread and then hot-glue it all together so it doesn’t pull out over time.
This shows a regular shade cord tied to just one ring.
That seems fine, right? It is…except if you ever need to remove a loop, you have to get through the glue to untie everything. Not fine.
My friend may want to adjust these loops by releasing the top or bottom ring along the expanse of the shade – if she wants it longer.
Now she can easily do that. Notice the star clip, too.
I like the star, too. There are nine hearts in the package, and I needed ten. The final clip is the star.
They’re both cute, though. Don’t you think?
Can you imagine the fun surprise for this little girl when she sees the back side of her curtains? (I love that…secret surprises.)
