Porch Living Tablescape

Is it warm at your house yet?  Are you itching to get outside?

Over the weekend, I cleaned windows, raked out some bush beds, and investigated all that needs to be done soon here in The Land of Making Do.  Whew!  Does that stress you out when you do that?

And then I got tired.  I went inside and set a tablescape with porch living in mind.

Porch Living Tablescape

I found this table-cloth on clearance (at Ross or T. J. Maxx) a couple of years ago.  I thought I’d use it a lot more, but this was the first opportunity.

The only variance from colors in the table-cloth striping are the napkins and the flowers – always wishing for those this time of year.

Porch Living Tablescape

Sorry to say, but these flowers are all fake.  How I wish for the real thing!  Are you dreaming of beautiful things growing in your yard this summer?

After putting in our sprinkler system last fall, I need lots of new plantings.  Our drought made planting new things impossible late last year.  Rain doesn’t look to be in our future to get a good soaking for new landscaping now, either.

But I’ll try it and run that sprinkler system daily if necessary.  I dream of sitting in the porch swing listening to our sprinklers raining over pretty flowers.  🙂

And of enjoying porch dinners on summery dishes…

and of serving sweet tea in pretty pitchers…

with cheese slices from our Mississippi State Cheese Store shelves.

Won’t that be fine?  Come on over, y’all!

As I turned out the dining room lights, I noticed the view of this Dept. 56 house was very much like mine in that moment.

Darkness outside with lights on inside, showing life while drawing an end to a long, productive day (and season, too).

Porch Living Tablescape

Let us be thankful for the winter season and all we accomplished there…for tomorrow will bring another day and soon a new season of porch living…

Porch Living Tablescape

Of newness of spring growth…of bright sunny spring days with warm weather to enjoy before the summer heat kicks in gear.

What are you pining for  in these last days of winter?  Are you thankful, all the same?

Blessings~

I’m sharing this table with Tablescape Thursday.

Yes, we had rain during the night, too. I don’t know about more, but it seems we’re already getting less rain overall than usual. We will continue to pray for a good year of regular rains and for the crops to be successful this year. 🙂

Winter has been so up and down in Houston and has even had some evenings when we enjoyed eating on the porch. That is one of my favorite places to start the day, and I’ll be very happy to get myself out there again. Your blue and white is quite lovely.

Love your vignettes & tablescapes!! Our daughter graduated from Mississippi State and we so loved getting their cheeses & dairy as well as bakery goodies! The taste of their cheese can’t be beaten!!

Thank you, Edith. The cheese is a regular at our house – much easier to get now that we live close by. I hope it’s easier to order on-line than it was fifteen years ago when you had to snail-mail a check with a written order form. I hope your daughter has done well after getting her State degree. 🙂

I love this! The flowers look so real you could have faked us out and told us they were real. haha
It really looks “springy”. You always make such nice tablescapes. You could decorate show homes.

I was enjoying a few days of spring-ish weather last week.

One day I will have a back deck and sun room. THAT will be the evening spot…the sunset is amazing from the back of the house.

Guess what? Saturday’s trip to the OTHER thrift shop to donate resulted in me “browsing” and guess what I got? A whole NEW roll of paintable wallpaper!!! I was like,” NO WAY. Kim is gonna laugh. “I had to buy it!! I am already seeing it on the drawers of a night stand with plenty leftover for future projects. It’s a leaves print. I googled and couldn’t find any like it. It’s Borden WT 3231. AWESOME for just $5!!!!

I have been behaved a long time when I donate there. I just donate and don’t shop. The dropoff is out back and you have to drive around to the front to go in. So I usually resist. The reason I went in was to see if they had any linen anything. I am fixing the hymnals that are really messed up and linen would work well for the spine. They didn’t have anything (but Sunday I did get some linen placemats at Goodwill.) Saturday I also got a few other do dads really cheap. And I got 2 heavy duty storage tubs for the garage for $5 each that were the same ones I paid $10 each for at BJs last month. They just need cleaning. It was a GOOD day.

Today Q and I took a ride to the thrift store near me and donated something I got on the side of the road a week ago across from ST’s school. She was poo-pooing the idea but I was not listening. ha! I took it home and washed it up. It was a white bassinet. It was filthy and stained with leaves in it. I soaked the fabric part in Oxy wash, then washed it and added some bleach. I usually don’t use bleach anymore but I think this needed it. It came out so clean. I put it back together and added batteries to the music/light. It worked! What a big difference. Now someone who can’t afford a bassinet can get one CHEAP. Their prices are VERY reasonable there.

Today I got me a new doctor!!! He is integrative and I LOVED him! He spent way over an hour with me!! I will have blood tests done and also re-test for food allergies, and then other tests. One by one we will rule things out. I plan on being tip top REALLY soon!! I am very hopeful now that I have someone who not only listens, but is knowledgeable in functional medicine. He will be treating my thyroid issues. I am ditching the endocrinologist. He was one of many who just test TSH and don’t give a hoot how you feel. They really don’t know much about thyroid disorders. They just give you a prescription. They don’t look for WHY you have thyroid disease. It’s a shame. But it is more the norm than not.

Look out world….when Robin is well there will be BLOGGING!!!! 🙂
(AND the basement will get done! hahaha!)

Note to self….do not cook any more chicken in the pressure cooker after Q goes to bed. He is steady scratching at ST’s bedroom door to get out… STILL. It’s almost midnight. Earlier I opened the door to see what his problem was and he lifted his nose and SNIFF SNIFF SNIFF. I was like “Oh geez. I did it again.” LOL I am going to bed REAL soon and won’t hear it once my door is shut. ST has learned to ignore him. haha

Thank you for the sweet compliment, Robin. I can’t believe you stumbled upon that paper so quickly! Wow. You must be living right. Awe, someone will be so happy to get the bassinet. You’re a champ for cleaning it up! Congrats on finding the doc you like. I’ll be waiting for your new blog! After the basement project, that is. Poor Q…he needs some chicken! Ha! 🙂

I wound up taking him into the bathroom with me while I showered, then made him go back to bed. This morning his sniffer was in super-sniff-mode as I made Mr Wonderful’s lunch (salad with CHICKEN in it). I slipped him a few little pieces of chicken and a piece of lettuce. During our walk he was in DIGGING-FOR-MOLES mode. He started digging….He kept looking up at me like “Is it ok?”, his nose all dirty. He was too cute! I had to make him stop eventually or he would have been covered in dirt and we would have been there all day. LOL!

Thank you, Shannon. I went to find something REAL today, and I found flowers. Next week, real flowers. 🙂 I did enjoy my day, thanks. I hope your day was wonderful, too!

I just came in from working in the yard, cleaning up the messy weed beds we inherited when we bought this house, and read your post! It really is relaxing for me to work in the yard and since we had 78 degree temperatures today in Ohio in the middle of the winter – it was a pleasure!!! I hope your flower beds thrive this year!! There is nothing like fresh flowers, but we all resort to fake when we have too!!! Pretty Table!

Thank you, Ann. I’m so glad you enjoyed a beautiful day. I purchased some flowers yesterday to plant. Nothing much is colorful here, so I decided to add it. And, we’re due to 28 degrees one night this weekend. I guess I’ll wait on planting those flowers! Our weather (yours and mine) sure is crazy this year! Happy weekend!
