I’ve been reading a lot of books lately. A sister-blogger told her readers about a couple of books by Jack Hayford that she was enjoying. While I waited for her review of this one, I decided I couldn’t wait. I had to begin reading it myself.
I ordered the two books that Jack Hayford wrote on prayer. Penetrating the Darkness seemed to be the one I should focus on first, so I’ll share the other book later.
God speaks to us through His word – the Bible. We should read His word daily…and pray daily, of course. You may not be one to read books, but I continually have a stack of books. Since I began blogging, my stack seems to get taller and taller. Rarely do I allow myself to read more than one book at a time.
Do you ever finish a book after putting it aside to start reading another one? I don’t. Well, except recently. I have six – yes, SIX – books that I pick up at various times throughout each of my recent days.
Getting to my subject about the Penetrating the Darkness book, the author offers (his words) “keys to ignite faith, boldness and breakthrough”. We have power over unseen evil, and it is through Christ – by the power of prayer.
“All prayer – petition, intercession, supplication and praiseful
thanksgiving – is noted as ‘the weapons of our warfare,’
as believers gird for the battle in spiritual armor
and take up spiritual weaponry.” (Jack Hayford’s words again)
If you are fighting a spiritual battle of some sort, there are things you might want to know about how to approach God with your prayers. Jack Hayford recommends four areas for beginning your prayers:
- Present yourself to God through praise for Him.
- Present your heart to Him for cleansing.
- Present your day to Him, sharing your schedule and listening to adjustments He wants you to make.
- Present your reach, your people of influence, like family and friends, co-workers, etc.
I’ll share more of this book later. I wanted to give you this little intro today in case you want to read it, too. Here are the chapter titles.
- Rules of Engagement
- The Gift of a Kingdom
- Back to Basics
- Intercession Practicum
- It’s Only by the Blood
- A Binding Contract
- Breaking Loose
- Engaging in Battle
- Invasion of Life
- We Shall Do Valiantly
