A meal for two may not seem very exciting…especially at lunch. No candle light. No special china. No romantic music.
But, when we spread a cloth, gather pretty flowers, and stack colored plates, it takes the ordinary and kicks it up a notch.
Just a simple lunch – with accents of red, white, and blue. We do enjoy the flowers.
Purple Smoke Baptisia blooms bring out the blue.
Extra colors beyond red, white, and blue are on the dinner plates.
Gold stars remind us that Memorial Day should be observed – even at simple meals with only two.
Lemonade makes the perfect lunch beverage – especially in frozen mugs.
The music we hear is birdsong. HH enjoys hearing a very loud and nearby Bob White Quail.
With temperatures hovering around warm and not-too-hot, casual attire of shorts, t-shirt, and flip-flops are all that’s required. Wearing a patriotic t-shirt is a nice idea.
Pretty soon, lunch is served.
Is there anything patriotic about egg salad sandwiches? Baked kale chips? How about dill pickles?
I know. So ordinary.
Of course, our love for country runs deeper than love of egg salad.
We thank God for food and for life
for our country that’s sometimes in strife.
Are you praying alongside Anne Graham Lotz for the 9 days of MAYDAY? It’s a blessing to start our days fresh. God does that.
He orders our days. He allows time for meals in special spaces with those we love, those He brought together for His purposes.
He turns the not-particularly-special, the simple non-lavish lunch into a meal of leisure…needed conversation…a breath of fresh air…with sounds of His goodness all around.
Not everyone can have large, Memorial Day gatherings. No matter our circumstances, we can pause for a meal of reflection, appreciation, and thankfulness…in the midst of egg salad..pickles…baked baby kale chips and lemonade.
We take things for granted all too often. Our freedom isn’t free. Some paid their life for it – the highest price. Let’s not forget them. Let’s be thankful.
I’m sharing at Tablescape Thursday, so come along for more fun!
