Sort of sad to close out this fun week, y’all!
Don’t you love monograms? This desk lamp in Spunky Daughter’s room needed an update.
Five years ago, when we decorated her “teen room”, I painted polka-dots on this shade and added the ribbon trim. Looks more childish than teenage to me now.
I found the green and white fabric on sale (of course). Loved it, so I bought a yard. Thought it would make a cute monogrammed pillow or something. Then, I suddenly had a vision.
Cut the fabric to size for the shade, marked the spot for the center of the monogram, then took it to Silly Whispers. Don’t you love that name? It’s a full and fun fabric/quilt shop. Small town square location. Sisters working together. Don’t you imagine these sister co-owners as young girls? The origination of it all. Silly whispers among sisters as children. Silly Whispers among sisters as adult quilters.
Found two trims I liked and couldn’t decide which I liked best. Guess what, y’all? I decided on both.
Just staggered them slightly so it looks almost like a plaid corded edge. A nod to all the corded pillows and window treatments I’ve made. Still love that look – very neat, added detail, and fun dimension.
Since this shade isn’t an exact rectangle, I added a pleat at each top corner to take in the fabric. Sort of a dart in it, ’cause the top rim is slightly smaller around than the bottom. No need for sewing, y’all. Just position the fold towards the corner with the folded edge right at the corner. Looks like a seam, but it’s not after you press the dart. It lays nice and flat.

I love this shade! May have to do another one for my office or the Craft Cave. Or… I’ll just “borrow” this one!
I’m so happy you joined me for all my lamp explorations this week. We have surely seen a wide range of styles!
Some rooms around here are looking a little better in the lighting department. I hope you’ve seen an idea or two you’d like to try. Let me know how it goes. I’d love to see pictures, too.
