You’ve heard me say this before, but it’s been awhile. God has an amazing sense of humor!
You know we live on a farm with horses and dogs. We have spiders, bees, and lizards, too (among other things). I try to keep the house clear of them, but I always see critters on our porches.
Anyway, as I sat reading in the family room early one morning last week, I was amazed at God’s timing. I was reading Proverbs chapter 30, when I stopped to consider with a laugh how even castle caretakers struggle to keep lizards out.
In truly God’s timing of things, I looked down at the floor and noticed the tiniest chameleon crawling from under my chair, across the floor, and out the smallest crack at the base of the back door. A baby one!
I realize many of you may be horrified. When you live in the country, things like spiders, bees, and chameleons don’t bother you too much. They’re just part of the package.
I checked under the chair to see if other chameleon family members were there. Nothing. I laughed as I crawled up the chair to a standing position. The irony of reading that verse right before seeing that baby lizard out on our carpet. (By the way, the picture above is of our little friend, snapped by me in a rush with my phone.)
What a comfort it is to read that critters are even in kings’ palaces. You don’t need to “wig out” about a lizard or spider in your palace. They are examples for us to not give up on surviving the hard times and to keep our faith!
We do keep our house sprayed so spiders don’t live among us. But, lizards are a different sort of thing. (Is there a spray for them? I’ve never noticed one.)
I tell you this today to prompt you. If you’re not in the habit of reading your Bible, you are missing out! God is the jokester of all jokesters, and He knows how to crack me up! He speaks in many serious ways, and when you aren’t expecting it, He throws in a zinger.
You wouldn’t want to miss that, now, would you?
