Do you hear the music? “Good, good, good…good vibrations.”
Because it sent me straight to my imaginary beach in an instant! One sip is all it took.
Yay, it’s March! Almost Spring, y’all. Summer’s on the horizon, practically.
Spunky Daughter and I have been trying to eat healthier. We’ve whirled up smoothies for breakfast the last couple of weeks.
We’ve made yogurt smoothies since the kids were little. I pretended they were milk shakes, so they’d like them. And, it worked. They loved them.
We mix a little plain yogurt, 1% or skim milk, different kinds of frozen fruit, a little no-calorie sweetener (Stevia), some vanilla, and blend it all up to enjoy. So many delicious concoctions to try! Using frozen fruit gives your smoothie the milk shake texture without using ice that can water it down. I’ll share the link to print the recipe at the end of this post.
I’ve always been one to freeze stuff. Cooked bacon, chopped vegetables, fruit, anything I might need quickly later. With frozen fruit on hand at all times, you’re ready to whip up a smoothie jiffy-quick.
When you have fruit that’s getting too ripe, stick it in the freezer.
Bananas are the easiest ever – just lay them on the freezer shelf. When ready for one, pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds on high. No messy hands, when you slice the skin along the outer edge, slide it out (still partially frozen) into your blender. Bananas turn brown-skinned in the freezer, but the insides are still perfect for blending. (They taste terrific as a pop-cycle – don’t microwave, just peel with a knife.)
For whole berries or chopped fruit, lay them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, freeze them thoroughly, then load them into a freezer zip-top bag.
Here is the printable Fruit Smoothie Recipe. It includes the basic recipe, plus notes about how we made these two beautiful and delicious smoothies – Pina Colada and Strawberry Pineapple. Using the basic recipe, experiment on your own with different fruits to find your favorites.
I’ve enjoyed sharing my smoothies with you today! Isn’t God wonderful, blessing us with all this deliciousness?
