End Table Update

Before & After End Table

I found this end table at a local garage sale.  Do you agree that it needed a little TLC?

I’m still in my mode of using Valspar Latex Super Flat Primer and Paint as an alternative to Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (ASCP), which I love (but I don’t love the price so much).

With ASCP, you don’t have to sand the finish first, but using Valspar is different.  I sanded it just to be on the safe side.  I had Lowe’s mix a paint to match my ASCP paint swatch of Antibes Green and gave it a quick coat.  It dries very fast, so after a little while, I painted a second coat.  I learned with The Emperor’s Dresser that two coats of Valspar paint is better than one.

So, this is the beautiful color before I applied any wax.

Antibes Gree end Table

Have you ever spread newspaper on your kitchen floor and painted furniture right beside your table and chairs, blocking the door to let the dog out, blocking traffic in general?  It would have been OK with just this little table in the way.  But, I also had three other pieces of garage sale furniture squished into that space.

I find it too hot and humid in this Mississippi weather for painting in the garage.  That’s my tip of the day.  Paint inside your house.  Your family will love you for it.

Hey, for a second tip, threaten sweet-talk your unemployed teenager into helping you paint a couple of pieces.  They might (or might not) actually enjoy it! 😉

OK, enough of the tips.  After sanding the table in spots to reveal a little wood, I clear waxed it and followed with dark wax (Annie Sloan brand).  I made sure to rub as much of the wax off as possible.  I really like the depth the dark wax brings to the bright green.

Updated End Table

After this picture was taken, I knocked a little more paint off the edges with sandpaper.  Then I waxed in those areas again.  I like the look of gently aged furniture.  (Not aged like it was when I first brought it home, y’all.)

This green color looks good with my dining room panels, so I placed a chair beside it.  Then again, hydrangea blooms can make anything look good.

End Table Update Complete

Can you guess what painting project needs to be next?  First things first ~ finish the furniture cluttering the kitchen before dragging more into the room! The families of “rehabbers” surely have patience.  Do you paint furniture in your kitchen?  (Please tell me I’m not the only one.)

OK, chair.  Get ready for your place on the newspaper…in the kitchen…you may be next!

Thank you for visiting! ~ Just a note to remind you to follow me through email, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Google+ or Hometalk.  Also, I’d love it if you shared Curtain Queen with all your sweet friends.  Thanks, y’all.
