It’s a bright, sunny Monday morning here in The Land of Making Do – a beautiful beginning to our week before Mother’s Day.
I mentioned recently that I’d finally found fabric for our master bedroom pillow shams to coordinate with the room. If you’ve been following along, you’ve seen the three phases of window treatments I’ve shared with you over the past few months. If you’d like to see those, here are the links: Phase One, Phase Two, and Phase Three.
My goal was to give the room a little more masculinity than it had previously. The plaid sham fabric is a shimmery silk and is the same texture as the hobbled shades. Most men like plaid, don’t you think? I detected a hint of relief from HH when he saw these new shams. (Score!)
For today, here’s a peak at the finished product for this first set of shams.
What do you think? The colors tie together the golds from the shades and euro pillows behind, the greens tie in the cotton boll greenery on the shades, and the blue brings it all together with the wall color. There is a brown tone, as well, which I like for a change. I don’t normally lean towards browns.
Do you remember the old floral print I had in this room? It was time for a change, don’t you think?

The unique thing about the flange on these shams is that the flange doesn’t flop over in a wilt. Do you dislike a wilted flange as much as I do? To see how easy they are to make, visit my post Pillow Shams With a “No-Flop” Flange – Tutorial.
While purchasing this plaid fabric, I picked up a couple of other prints for additional pillows. I can hardly wait to share the final Ta-Da! I’m working on an additional set of shams with a different type of edge than I’ve shown you.
For the non-sewing crowd, there will be a quick pillow you can make with a simple technique. It’s going to be such fun, and I hope you’ll be following along through an email subscription. You can sign up over in my sidebar to the right and receive my posts directly into your email inbox.
I’d like to thank those of you who encouraged me yesterday after my hint of some recent personal issues. Your prayers and support mean so much to me, and to HH, too!
Blessings~
I am anxiously awaiting the tutorial on the shams. Thanks so much.
Great! I plan to publish the tutorial tomorrow. “Lord willing and the creek don’t rise,” as the old saying goes. 🙂
The plaid is beautiful with your paint color and other linens.

Thank you, Jennie.
Beautiful!!
Kim, several years ago I made shams from a set of cotton drapes. I was at an outlet and they had almost everything…but no shams. So I bought the lined curtains and valance and made shams and other things from them and an extra sheet. It was so fun. I had no idea what I was doing…but I did have one sham that I didn’t use as a sham (it was quilted and I used it as a table throw) and used it as my guide. I still have them and they still look great. I look forward to seeing how you made yours…and pinning of course. 😉
Thanks for sharing your talents with us at Project Inspire{d}!
