Happy Friday, y’all, and welcome to May! Can you believe April is over already?
I decided to get ahead of the game (for a change – ha!) and get a little red, white, and blue going for some Memorial Day planning.
Lots of people dye deviled eggs for Easter. A friend told me she once dyed eggs for Memorial Day. Doesn’t that sound fun?
It’s very easy, too.
For the red and blue dye baths, mix 1/2 teaspoon of food coloring gel to 1-1/2 cups of hot water.
Boil a bunch of eggs and peel them. Slice them in half, place the yolks in a small bowl for deviling, and place whites into each dye bath (reserving some for the plain white ones).
Refrigerate egg whites for two hours or overnight.
Meanwhile, mix the yolks into your desired deviled egg recipe.
Remove eggs from the food dye onto paper towels. I love how vibrant the color turns out!
Dry them thoroughly and then fill all egg whites…and reds…and blues. 🙂
Aren’t they pretty? We don’t normally have fireworks for Memorial Day celebrations, but there’s no disrespect in coloring the eggs.
For July 4th celebrations, bring on the fireworks! Sparklers, too. Don’t these decorations remind you of sparklers?
I found them in my stash from Christmas…must have been snowflakes. Isn’t it nice to get dual duty out of things?
What’s your favorite deviled egg recipe? Do you have something unique to share?
