Be encouraged today from Psalm 63. David’s praise to our Father is so bold and pure, and his need for the Lord is so very descriptive!
O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you.
My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you
in this parched and weary land where there is no water.
I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your
power and glory. Your unfailing love is better to me
than life itself; how I praise you!
I will honor you as long as I live,
lifting up my hands to you in prayer.
You satisfy me more than the richest of foods.
I will praise you with songs of joy.
Do you feel David’s urgency, his need for God, his dependence, his confidence? Oh, I do, too!
Did you begin to feel thirsty, longing for God as you read David’s psalm? He has us literally cheering along in his praise to the Lord!
My favorite part comes at the end of the next stanza.
I lie awake thinking of you,
meditating on you through the night.
I think how much you have helped me;
I sing for joy in the shadow of your protecting wings.
I follow close behind you;
your strong right hand holds me securely.
Have you shown the Lord your need for Him? Have you told Him about the things that concern you? Yes, He already knows, but He wants to hear our heartfelt prayers of candor and of our need.
Do you have that same urgency to be with God, that thirst that David spoke of? Ask Him for it, and He will give it to you. He will gladly fill you up with Himself – to the point you can’t seem to get enough, yet running over. Oh, God loves you so! And, He longs for you! It’s not a one-sided relationship. (Praise Him!)
He’s our very big God. Remember, He holds us securely with His strong right hand. Amen!
