It’s rare that I publish two posts on the same day, but I wanted to give you something to check out over the weekend. Don’t we all love something new to consider during a little leisure reading time? I hope you’ll visit Craftsy to see all they offer – perhaps a way to discover a new outlet for your creativity.
By the name, you might think Craftsy is all about crafts. I found Craftsy recently, and I’m interested in taking a photography course and a bread artisan class. You see? Craftsy isn’t only about crafts. I wanted to share with you what Craftsy offers their members through their free membership. It looks to be a really fun place to hang out, as well as a wonderful resource for learning new techniques.
Craftsy offers a marketplace for online classes – from quilting and sewing to photography, cooking, knitting, painting, and more – in a worldwide craft community. Independent designers can sell their patterns through their patterns marketplace. You can peruse their supplies shop for great deals on yarn, fabric, and class kits. There is a projects section where members can share their latest craft projects – with pictures, too. They seem to have something for everyone.
Craftsy classes are backed by many hours of preparation – determining content is only the beginning of offering the best teaching techniques from a camera point of view. Behind the scenes, instructors and designers are busy creating in-depth class outlines, preparing each course’s step-by-step instructions, creating props and “step-outs” that demonstrate what your project should look like at different stages of the project, and then the actual filming begins. Instructors follow an outline during filming to achieve a natural class-room feeling that is engaging.
Craftsy has five studios in Denver, CO, that are used for filming classes. Instructors are flown from all over the world for several days filming. After extensive filming is complete, it takes several weeks to edit footage and create the three hour class experience. Each session is watched, rewatched, and reviewed by industry experts before the class is offered on Craftsy’s site. The HD-quality video takes you in-depth into your chosen topic listed in the craft category- including cooking, fine art, sewing, and knitting.
The Craftsy experience has all the benefits of sitting in a real classroom, without the drawbacks. The classes are online and on-demand, with world-class instructors at the click of your computer. You are allowed to retake a class as many times as you need, and there’s a 30-second repeat feature that allows you to watch the same section many times until you master the details of every technique. It’s like having a front-row seat in the classroom, and they are so assured of your satisfaction, Craftsy offers a 100% money-back guarantee.

Click the link above and check them out. I think you’ll find them interesting, and possibly you’ll see a free class to sign up for. I think photography will be the first class I take, followed by the bread-baking class, which are both offered for a fee. If you choose to enroll in a non-free class, I will get a small payment for it. Please don’t let that influence your decision. I’m doing this as an alternative to having my site cluttered with a million or so advertising boxes all around the edges of my page.
As a side note, I took on-line classes to help me learn the WordPress blog platform. It was more valuable to me than a traditional class because I was able to read the course lessons according to my personal needs and schedule. I also saved to my computer and printed each lesson – for review later. (I still review them when necessary.) The instructor was available for an infinite number of questions, which was more than is possible in a traditional classroom setting. I tell you this to let you know how wonderful on-line learning can be. I’m a firm believer!
