By now you know how I feel about Craftsy. Craftsy has a beautiful setting and organized structure for classes. I love that I can watch my class lessons any time I wish and as many times as I need…ahem, especially the Basics of Digital Photography (w/ Rick Allred)* class.
There is no grade, no pass-fail, but a continual learning experience with Craftsy. There are discussions among the class members and instructor throughout, and you can share your own projects along the way, too.
Jann Newton, who blogs at Newton Custom Interiors contacted me recently and asked if I would view the Craftsy class she instructs and write a review. Her new class is Custom Bedding – Decorative Shams and Bolsters.
Among other things on her blog, Jann shares tutorials for sewing home decor and shows pictures of window treatments and home decor she sews for the public.
When Jann contacted me, I’d just finished viewing Craftsy’s Sewing Custom Curtains & Draperies* class by Susan Woodcock (a fabulous class, too). You might wonder why I would do that, since I already know how to sew home decor.
It’s always nice to see the techniques of others since there are several ways to achieve the same look.
These are the projects included in Jann’s Craftsy class. Aren’t those fun fabrics?
I found Jann’s class packed full of great tips, not only with her sewing techniques, but also the other information she included. For example, she discusses fabric choices for each type of decor item, and she demonstrates yardage computations for repeats. Jann provides a printable worksheet for you to compute yardage and also explains cutting on the repeat.
Jann covers the different types of forms, their content and sizes. Jann shows how to properly cut out a pillow to fit neatly over your pillow form and provides a printable pillow corner template.
Jann’s knife pleat ruffle, the mitered flange, covered buttons and covered piping are clearly explained in the video demonstration. These are beautiful details you’ll master after completing her class.
All techniques are clearly demonstrated in Jann’s custom bedding class. Her attention to detail and neatness are huge benefits to her blog readers, as well as her Craftsy class members.
I have a wonderful surprise for you today. Jann, along with Craftsy, is offering her class for you at a discount through the following link.
Are you as excited as I am about this class (and discount)? You’ll love Jann’s class, so please head on over to Craftsy and check it out.
Jann, I’m so proud of you for what I know must have been a monumental amount of preparation for the class filming. Thank you for asking me to review your fun class – and for the shared discount! 🙂
