Priscilla Shirer is an anointed Bible teacher and speaker and Bible study author. Do you know her?
The pastor, Tony Evans, is her dad. And, like her dad, Priscilla keeps your attention as she speaks. She’s inspiring while pouring God’s Truth into you.
Two years ago, I worked my way through her study of Gideon.
I wasn’t in a trial or in a life stage of wilderness at the time, but I felt God preparing me for something ahead. And, of course, I dreaded it. If you’re not in a trial, there’s one around the corner, right?
We all know it. Hard times will come…it’s inevitable. The road of life is hilly. I’m looking forward to the smooth life in Heaven. Are you?
‘It is all right,’ the Lord replied, ‘Do not be afraid. You will not die.’ (Judges 6:23)
My study of Gideon (through Priscilla) prepared me for days (and months) ahead, days suddenly spent in a spiritual battle – the hardest and most fierce we’d ever faced.
But if you stay joined to me and my words remain in you, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted! (John 15:7)
Immediately, we sought God in all of it – through every inch of that battle (and will continue until completion). I was in no emotional shape to handle it, but deep down inside, the example of Gideon was calling me to claim God’s victory when I felt bludgeoned by the battle. Things looked hopeless.
Now to him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21)
There is always hope in Him.
Our first reaction when the enemy strikes is to be on the defensive…to cower in the corner and cover our head.
Rise Up! Change your stance. Claim the victory before the battle has begun.
When we’re in the midst of war, claiming the expected victory is the hardest thing to do – even when we firmly know God’s Word. We cling to His promises because we know He is faithful. Looking at the world makes it hard, but we can stand on His promises.
Be glad for all God is planning for you. Be patient in trouble, and always be prayerful. (Romans 12:12)
Claiming this victory requires a daily position of faith. Tell God (out loud!) that you choose to believe His promises…that you know He will answer your prayers for victory because He’s already won the battle against the darkness.
I know because I’ve done it. God is daily answering our prayers.
Not to me, O Lord, not to me but to Your name be the glory, because of Your love and faithfulness.
Stand beside Him as you watch Him fulfill His promises. And be amazed.
Let’s celebrate our amazing Lord on this spectacular Sunday!
