Possibly, you remember this cabinet door art in Extending the Life of a Tween Room. We’ve changed out some of Spunky Daughter’s bedroom accessories to make it more teenage appropriate.
Months ago, I bought several old cabinet doors at my local builder salvage place. They were $1-$2 each. Score! You can’t buy a canvas for that, and these have much more character than a plain canvas.
This one was already painted a pretty shade of light blue, so I just cleaned it really well and planned to paint something on it.
I remembered seeing a tutorial on line about how to paint dandelions. Intrigued by it, I had studied the tutorial, looking at each how-to picture to take in all the details. By the time I decided to paint the dandelions on this door, I pretty much went by memory because I couldn’t remember where I’d seen the tutorial.
While writing this post, I did an on-line search to find the tutorial so I could send you there. I was shocked to find where I’d seen it originally. See the tutorial for painting the dandelions at Pretty Handy Girl HERE.
I laughed when I found the tutorial I had examined about a year ago. That day, I was replacing the light fixture in Fun Son’s bathroom, and I needed help with removing the hollywood-style fixture that was there. An on-line search took me to Pretty Handy Girl’s website. I read through her details about removing that type of fixture and accomplished the task, and then mounted the new fixture.
Later that day, I explored her site, pouring over many very helpful posts. I’d never seen such a site – a wealth of information! Her blog was the first one I followed, but I didn’t know how, so I bookmarked her page and returned through the bookmark every few days.
My painting doesn’t look nearly as good as hers, which she painted as a mural on a wall. After trying my hand at these dandelions on this cabinet door, I stashed it in a corner and tried to forget about it. (We never really like our own work, do we?)
A few months later, Spunky Daughter (SD) said she wanted a painting of dandelions on her wall – a mural, and what she described was that same mural painted by Pretty Handy Girl. How did she know? I’d not shown her the painting!
Eventually, I showed SD the picture I’d painted and told her I preferred to hang the cabinet door painting rather than paint the mural. She went for it. Yay! Project done.
