I’ve been working on this upstairs bedroom, creating a theme that started by hanging a large Manzanita branch over the bed. Painter Artist Mom gave it to me last year. For the longest time, I struggled with what to do with it. Due to its size, it needed a special spot.
The idea to hang the Manzanita on a wall hit me one day right out of the blue. Ha – blue!
I really enjoy the structure of trees. Just look at all the twists, turns, and variations of brown tones!
I painted curtain rod brackets to match the wall once I decided the best locations for holding the branch securely.
The window treatment fabric was fitting with all the leaves. White trim is in a natural, all-cotton fringe. For a closer look at the panels, see this post about lined panels and this one about cartridge pleats. Match-stick Roman shades (I’d previously installed) fit the theme nicely.
Notice the burlap pillow Mississippi applique is a wood grain print. I bought it at Premiere Prints the day I found the curtain fabric on clearance. Isn’t it fun how rooms just come together, sort of morphing as you go along?
Remember the burlap pillow was formerly in the rocker by the window? My Jean-Backed T-Shirt Pillow now has a new companion. You can download the heart pillow pattern from my DIY French Lavender Hearts post.
Flanged shams have become a bedding standard for me.
I couldn’t resist this Federal print with the laurel sprays and heart-shaped leaf tucked between each motif.
For the second layer, I made a long pillow casing for a body pillow.
The pop of color around this casual denim is a super-bargain strapping from HobLob. (Under $2 a yard – gotta love that!)
The sham is very user-friendly. (Tutorial coming soon.)
For an occasional change, I made the reverse side in a Tartan plaid. (Remember the master bedroom 2-sided shams?) Having choices is a wonderful thing!
Did you enjoy seeing all the bedrooms decorated in Tartans over the winter? I’m all set for next year!
Since the bamboo lamp from my office fits the theme, it gets a new view.
The opposite bedside lamp is new…from T. J. Maxx. It adds a little shine (or bling?), but I need to change the bulb to a soft white. This super-bright must be an old bulb in our stash from experimenting to find our soft white preference.
There are more plans for this room, but those details will have to wait.
I’m moving on to some changes in the family room. Funny, I thought I only lacked a new window treatment in our most-used room in the house. Due to a post I was working on for YOU, I suddenly had a new vision. I re-arranged the furniture, ordered a new chair (shocker, I know!), and revved up the sewing machine again. Stay tuned….
The body pillow tutorial is waiting for you at 3-Step DIY Decorative Body Pillow Sham.
We’ll have a nice break over the long weekend to celebrate our Lord’s sacrifice and resurrection and begin next week fresh with advice from the experts on arranging furniture in your family room. (Yes, the post that started all my recent flurry.)
I hope it will inspire you, as well!
I’m sharing this post at the fabulous Metamorphosis Monday.
