Most of you may already know.
For those of you who don’t, I’ll say it again.
We live in the middle of nowhere. The Land of Making Do. Farmland. Dirt road. Here’s our February equation.
Flatland + Rainy season = MUD
For the first time in my life, I live in a house with a mudroom. Never needed one before. Thankful for it now, and tickled pink we have a room for all the muddy boots!
No, these are not the boots we wear on the farm during rainy seasons. These came straight out of the closet for the picture. Well-worn, y’all, but actually cleaned up a little for wearing “out”. You know…public.
Another confession: not the mudroom. This time of year, I can’t keep it clean enough for a picture, even for 5 minutes! Snapped this picture at the kitchen porch door. Truth be told, we need a boot tray at every door!
Found this plastic boot tray at the farm supply for $10. I’ve seen similar at Wal-Mart for $5, but they’re not the shape and size we need.
Decided to try a little knock-off experiment.
The Ballard Designs Mudroom Boot Trays are gorgeous! Probably real metal. But the clearance price is $35. Yes, a true savings over the regular $49. Still too much for my budget.
The first paint color I tried wasn’t quite right, so I changed to this FolkArt Metallic Antique Copper. I really like FolkArt brand of metallics. A tad more pricy at $1.77, but what’s a few pennies to get the look you want?
Let’s look at the pluses: Paint dried quickly, plastic won’t rust like the metal version, and my favorite – saved some cash.
Love the sheen of this bronze-toned copper. And thank the Lord for mud-management tools!
