Chair Rescue in 3 Easy Steps

Annie Sloan to the Rescue

Remember when I found the $4 Thrift Store Vanity Stool?  After painting it and recovering the seat, Spunky Daughter confiscated it for her room.

Vanity Stool Update

That meant her desk chair had been replaced, so it went to the garage for a little makeover.

Chair Before Paint

After buying a few Annie Sloan paints and waxes when I visited my parents a couple of weeks ago, I had a plan for this chair.  I’m sticking with Florence and Pure White for the chair, since I still have a little left in the tester size jar.

You may notice that the table in the picture above is the Aging Porch Table Reno that I repaired for my back porch.  At the time of the picture, the table had been repaired, and it got painted first, before the chair.

Step One – painting.  I love the fact that there’s no prep sanding needed for Annie Sloan paints – just paint it on (after cleaning it, of course).

The old cream-colored parts are now Annie Sloan Florence color.

The seat and back rail got a coat of Pure White, which will look creamy after rubbing on the dark wax.

Pure White details were added by painting in the grooves on the legs.

Painting Details

It’s easier than you might think to paint in those grooves.  I was a little afraid, but it turned out fine.  Annie Sloan’s whole way of painting is perfection in imperfection.  So, don’t try to be perfect.

I found a stencil upstairs in my craft cave stash.

Stenciling

You can see some of the former detailing through the paint.  Somehow, it’s more prominent in the picture than it really is.  Besides, it’s more of that perfection in imperfection (wink).

Step Two – sanding.

Old White Chalk Paint

For an aged look, I sanded heavier in spots where it naturally would have worn.

Step Three – waxing.

I wiped it all down with a damp cloth, then gave it a coat of Annie’s clear wax.  I immediately followed with a coat of dark wax.  The grooves required a little extra work to get them darkened a little with the dark wax, but it was worth it.

Annie Sloan Chair

With no prepping, along with quick-dry paints, I was finished in no time.  There are several other furniture pieces purchased at a yard sale recently that I’ve been working on.

I’ve experimented with a different kind of paint, just to see how it compares with Annie Sloan.   I’m looking forward to sharing them with you.

Have you done any painting projects lately?  Have you tried Annie Sloan paints or any knock-off recipes?  I’d love to hear about your experience, so please leave me a comment.  I enjoy chatting, don’t you?

Thanks for visiting today.  I hope y’all have a blessed week!

Just a note to remind you to follow me through email, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Google+ or Hometalk.  Also, I’d love it if you shared Curtain Queen with all your sweet friends.  Thanks, y’all.
