Did your mom have a special snack ready for you when you came home from school? For special days?
My mom made these for us on special days. For after school treats.
When I was in Jr. High (I know – old school, ’cause it’s called Middle School now), my friend who lived across the street came over many afternoons to “hang out”. One day I decided to make some of the special snacks. It had been years since Mom had made some, and I’d almost forgotten about them.
These snacks were a big hit with my friend, and she said we needed a name for them. So, she dubbed them “treaties”.
And it stuck. Treaties became our secret code word. At the end of our school day, one of us would look at the other and say, “Treaties?”. The other would grin and nod. No more discussion necessary.
Revision: PAM (Painter Artist Mom) said I should share the “recipe”, so here it is: Spread peanut butter on desired number of saltine crackers. Top with four or five marshmallows and toast until marshmallows are browned on top. I thought it was self-explanatory, but there it is in case you didn’t know what was spread on the saltines. 🙂
We still talk about those treaties afternoons, my friend and I. We don’t live in the same town (or state), so we don’t get to run over and make some together anymore.
We both continued the tradition with our own kids, making them treaties after school sometimes.
Could it be that it’s a treaties afternoon for your kids? Or, if it’s just you, maybe a snack with a cup of tea. Either way, we’ll share our code word if you want to use it.
Thank you for visiting! ~ Just a note to remind you to follow me through email, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, or Hometalk. Also, I’d love it if you shared Curtain Queen Creates with all your sweet friends. Thanks, y’all.
